We Entered the School Age!

It is official...we are in the school age!  Olive started Kindergarten!  

I won't lie and say I didn't shed any tears, because I did.

She came home the first day and I already felt like she was years older!  How can that be!?

She wanted to be "fancy" on her first day so she picked out an awesome fancy outfit :)

Sooner than I know it Evelyn will be getting on the bus with her.

We also got their hairs cut before hand.  Olive wanted to keep her hair long for her Halloween costume (any guesses as to what she is going to be?)  Evelyn however has never had a hair cut so we went a little more drastic.

Lovely

I just recently got a brand new camera *cue major excitement* my old camera was

extremely outdated in the photography world.  Yes, it took pictures  but it did nothing

my lovely new camera can do :)

I have been playing around with it but there are so many new features I need to get used to!

I am hoping to get back into photography as a business.  I took a break after having the girls and really only took pictures for people if they asked.  Now, I am going to work on my portfolio! 

 Who better to start taking pictures of, than my girls!

I think both the models are lovely :) 

Finished!

I finished my quilting project! It by no means is perfect but I am pretty proud of it. My ma helped me out when I bought not quite enough fabric for the backing (thanks mom :) 

I gave it to my friend at her baby shower, along with a few bibs I made.  Someone mentioned I should make them and sell but I am not sure I have enough patience to make them again and again!

 

 

Crafty Quilting!

I saw this quilt on Pinterest...of course the Link went to

nowhere.  I don't know about you but that is one of my pet peeves on Pinterest!

My friend and I made baby blankets for her niece's, so I thought it would be nice to 

make her one for her baby due in June!

I had some help planning from my crafty mom :)  and I did some scribbling...

After trial and error and possibly a little bit of mumbling under my breath 

I was able to get the sizes and pattern down!  I will update as soon as I finish!

How on earth can it already be January 8, 2014!!! 

Its not possible! 

I can not believe that this fall Olivia will start Kindergarten!?!

AHH, that is crazy!

I am making this a no resolution because really I never follow through 

with any resolutions I make.  Most of which have been to lose weight,  but 

I need to find a different approach on that subject!

I do however want to take more pictures!  I have been awful at picture taking 

the last few months!!

Random Fun..

I learned recently if you take your 50mm lens off of your camera and turn it around and hold it in place it acts as a macro lens. 

It is a little tricky to hold in place but its fun to play with.  I want to play around with it more.!

Currently...

I am currently sitting in a big fluffy brown chair staring out my bedroom winter out into the white abyss of snow that fell yesterday. I actually can't see much...staring into the bright white outdoors is blinding me! 

The girls are playing ever so nicely together in their bedroom...hopefully, but I don't hear screaming or the constant "SHARE!" that I usually do. So I will wait a little while before poking my head in there. Because you know if I do all bets are off...and they will get distracted with that they are playing with to come and see what I am doing ;-) 

My girls are getting too big. I orginally started this blog "Kiss the Olive Goodnight" when Olivia was just a few months old. She will be 5 in a week, how is that possible!!

I have quite a few pins for homemade pretzels, pretzel bites but I have never actually tried making them. 

I think the whole dipping them in boiling water sounded, well, strange, time consuming and messy. 

A few of my assumptions were true but when I was finished I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was! 

 This is definitely a keeper!

The recipe is from Smells Like Home and I did everything the same except I didn't use the parchment on half of them because well they all got stuck.  Not sure I was suppose to oil them but I might have muttered a few unhappy words trying to get them off.  I was able to salvage most.

They are so addicting...fresh made from scratch.  Delicious!

And yes it was a tad messy...

 I think next time I will make a double batch and freeze some! 

Play-Doh...

Are my kids the only ones that do this? 

Please tell me I am not the only one that sometimes dreads pulling out the Play-Doh...

They like to chop it up into teeny tiny little pieces that always seem to make it into every corner of the house.  

But hey it makes the kids happy right!?

 

Pintrest - Creamy Tomato and Spinach Pasta

Success! 

I made a creamy tomato and spinach pasta for dinner and it was delicious! (Well the girls were a little apprehensive but they will come around :) 

I didn't have some of the herbs on hand.  I saw some in the refrigerated section at the grocery store the other day, I wonder if they are that much better than the dried?

For the Mr.

I just want to send some love to my other half, the hubs, the Mr. Today is our 6 year Anniversary! Feels like just yesterday he left me standing on top of that flight of stairs. ;-)

 (Kidding babe...but you know you will never hear the end of that!)

Pintrest Food - Cheesy Bacon Potato Bites

I have the habit of pinning sooooo many things and never really following through on actually making/cooking/crafting. So now I am going to do one of my pins at least once a week and let you know if it was a success or FAIL. Because really we have all had those ;-) 

 This week I started with an easy one! Cheesy Bacon Potato Bites! 

They turned out delicious! Pretty simple, slice potatoes, boiled sliced potatoes for 5 minutes, arrange on baking sheet and then top with cheese and bacon (I didn't have any chives.) When it was done I topped it with a little sour cream and then YUM!

Gonna be some changes made...

Changes are happening around here! 

Actually things are being dusted off first, it has been errrr.... I do not even know how long since I posted on Kiss the Olive Goodnight!  I now have a four year old and 2 year old,  am going on 6 years with the Mr. and I turned 30!! 

Dear crazy life....slow down!

But I hope you enjoy the changes to come and stick around...if not I like talking to myself too :)

We all love it!  I have found so many recipes and project ideas from that site, its great!

I made garlic mashed cauliflower for dinner tonight thanks to Pinterest.  (my house didn't smell the greatest but it tasted pretty good :)

 I want to share with everyone all the projects which have been keeping me busy the last few months!

 And most of the ideas I get are probably a spin off of something I have seen on Pinterst!

So...

Here is our master bedroom when we bought our house...

The wall color was a little dreary for me but I liked the tone so we brightened it up a little.

 My lovely husband helped me out with hanging these frames (I have had them for a few years.)

Not the greatest picture..sorry, took it with my phone :)

I was going for a "faux" headboard look because we are stretching our budget!  So I just got $10 worth of fabric and my frames.  I think it turned out pretty good.  I put some sticky velcro on the back so thy wouldn't swing if a pillow hit them.

I will post the bathroom changes soon!

Why hello.

Its been a while so let me re-introduce myself.

My name is Rachel...

I am a mom, wife, friend...creative mind "in the making"

and somewhere in there I am also a blogger.

I let it to go the wayside the last few months though because of many reasons...

Mainly because...

I have a baby and toddler (enough said)

We moved!!!

I just run out of steam at the end of the day!

I am going to get back in the swing of things because I want to start "writing" down the things we do as a family! and I want to start making fun things...I have so many ideas and I may need some help from my friends :)
